EVS Workshop 2019 in Tiflis
Am 10. und 11. Oktober wurde in Tiflis / Georgien der erste internationale Workshop zur EVS 2017 abgehalten. Organisiert wurde der Workshop, der an der Tbilisi State University stattfand und unter dem Thema "Comparing values in (post)crisis Europe" stand, vom georgischen EVS-Team rund um Merab Pachulia vom Institut GORBI sowie von Mitgliedern des EVS-Exekutivkomitees. Dabei wurden aktuelle Forschungsarbeiten auf der Basis der bisher veröffentlichten EVS-Daten zu verschiedenen Themenbereichen, u.a. zu Europäischer Identität, Religion, Familie, Politik sowie Migration vorgestellt und im Rahmen von mehreren Panels diskutiert. Neben inhaltlichen Fragen wurden auch methodische Aspekte beleuchtet. Hierzu waren Christian Welzel (Lüneburg) und Bart Meuleman (Leuven) als Keynote Speakers eingeladen. Eine weitere Keynote wurde von David Voas (London) unter dem Titel "The power of nones: Why secularization matters" gehalten.

EVS General Assembly Ljubljana 2019
The annual General Assembly of EVS took place in Ljubljana on 21-22 February 2019. The meeting has been organized in collaboration with the Slovenian Team of EVS at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. In addition to the Assembly of the Council, the EVS representatives from 26 countries discussed progress with the 2017/18 wave and planned joint dissemination acitivities.
CEPSA 2018 Conference in Banska Bystrica
23rd Annual Conference of Central European Political Science Association will be hosted by Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, Matej Bel University and will take place on September 13-14, 2018 in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. The conference topic is dedicated the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, a conflict, the results of which, among other things, included the creation of East-Central Europe as a region of nation-states.
Austrian EVS Team participates in the conference by presenting some of the first results from the 2018 EVS data collection wave.

EVS Workshop 2018 in Cologne
The European Values Study has organized the EVS Workshop in Cologne, on 15th and 16th of March 2018. During the workshop, chaired by Loek Halman and Ruud Luijkx, they introduced the core EVS team and provided an overview of the current state of the 2017-18 EVS wave. The usage of the newly introduced Translation Management Tool was discussed as well as the sampling, data collection and data processing. The EVS central team also presented MyEVS portal, weighting in its strengths and weaknesses. Information was given to the national teams on how to upload the data and other necessary documentation to the portal and explained the procedure between original data and modified data to be archived by GESIS Data Archive Service. Special emphasis was placed on data anonymization. Three joint EVS data releases were announced: December 2018 (for data approved by GESIS data archive team by April 2018), July 2019 (for data approved by GESIS data archive team by October 2018) and final release in December 2019 that will include all EVS 2017 countries.
On the second day of the workshop, EVS members were split into three groups to discuss substantive theoretical, methodological and data marketing issues. Substantive stream discussed the potential for publication cooperation. The possibility of organising thematic conferences that would facilitate joint publication process was also discussed. The EVS Briefs team discussed how to bring the EVS data to the forefront. The targeted audience includes politicians, journalists, business sectors and the general public. The Methodology group discussed issues related to indicators and scales, matrix designs and mixed mode survey methodology. A workshop in Iceland was proposed as a possible venue to continue this discussion.
Treffen der tschechischen und slowakischen EVS-Teams 2017 in Bratislava
The EVS Czech team, represented by Ladislav Rabušic, Petr Fucik, Roman Chytílek, Beatrice Chromková-Manea and the EVS Slovak team, represented by Katarína Strapcova, Silvia Míháílková, Zuzana Kusá, met in Bratislava to discuss methodological issues and challenges of investigating European Values.
The meeting was hosted by the Institute for Sociology, Slovak Academy of Sciences and the APVV research project No. 15-0653 Values in the Dynamics of Societal Changes in Slovakia and Europe (2016 – 2020) in the frame of which EVS 2017 survey will be held in Slovak Republic.
During the morning session the scholars dealt with practical aspects related to the upcoming data collection of EVS 2017 and proposed joint dissemination activities. In the afternoon a seminar of the APVV project and the methodological section of the Slovak Sociological Association took place.

General Assembly and Workshop in Athen
European Values Study and the EVS Greek team (Aikaterini Gari, Vassilis Pavlopoulos, Penny Panagiotopoulou) from University of Athens have organized the EVS General Assembly and a Workshop in Athens, on 5th May 2017.
During the General Assembly, chaired by Dr. Michael Breen, the Chair of EVS Loek Halman announced the release of the final version of the questionnaire to be used for the next data collection in Europe. The new master questionnaire is the results of the joint work of the Theory Group and the Methodology Group, in consultation with the National Program Directors during the previous General Assemblies, and with World Values Survey. Compared to the version used in 2008, some questions have been dropped and new have been added, trying to keep the balance between comparability over time and innovation, also in the perspective of compatibility with items used by WVS outside Europe. In Europe, according to the agreement between EVS and WVS, it is a joint data collection.
The workshop has been devoted to the preparation of the new data collection and concerning each step of the fieldwork.

Fachtagung "Wertebildung in der Einwanderungsgesellschaft"

Am 10. November 2016 lud die Bertelsmann Stiftung gemeinsam mit dem Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge zu einer Fachtagung nach Berlin. Unter dem Titel "Wertebildung in der Einwanderungsgesellschaft" wurden Fragen des Zusammenlebens in pluralistischen Gesellschaften aus wissenschaftlicher, politischer und praxisorientierter Perspektive besprochen.
Roland Verwiebe, Lena Seewann und Margarita Wolf nahmen für das Projekt "Wertebildung: Inhalte - Orte - Prozesse" an der Veranstaltung teil. Im Rahmen des Workshops "Partizipativ und dialogorientiert" präsentierten sie Herausforderungen und Lösungsansätze eines Wertebildungsprozess in pluralistischen Gesellschaften anhand emprischer Erkenntnisse.
Im Zuge der Fachtagung verfassten die ForscherInnen auch ein Expertiesennpapier, das unter dem Titel "Werte und Wertebildung in der Einwanderungsgesellschaft" in Kürze erscheint.

Das war die Tagung: EVS General Assembly 2017
Donnerstag und Freitag, 29.-30.Oktober 2015, 09:00 - 18:00
Vom 28.-30. Oktober 2015 waren ForscherInnen der „European Values Study“ aus rund 40 verschiedenen Nationen - von Armenien bis Island - zu Gast in Wien und haben über die unterschiedlichen Prozessphasen der nächsten Erhebungswelle im Jahr 2017 beraten. Dazu eingeladen hat die neu gegründete Arbeitsgemeinschaft „Interdisziplinäre Werteforschung“ ( unter Leitung von a.O. Uni-Prof. Dr. Christian Friesl) – eine Kooperation der Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaften und der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät.
Die European Values Study, die seit 1980 mit einem einheitlichen Konzept Einstellungen und Haltungen zu Werten in europäischen und angrenzenden Ländern erhebt, gibt Auskunft zu den Themenfeldern Arbeit und Freizeit, Familie und Freundeskreis, Religion sowie Politik. Gesamtziel ist es, den möglichen Wandel bezüglich der Werthaltungen und Lebenskonzepte der EuropäerInnen zu untersuchen.
Wir bedanken uns bei allen TeilnehmerInnen der Generalversammlung für die interessanten Gespräche und freuen uns auf ein Wiedersehen im Frühling 2016 in Warschau.
